How did you become a financial advisor?

In 2008, I graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. My parents’ retirement planning advisor had a growing business, so they gave me an opportunity to learn and support their business. During the financial crisis, I observed how many of our clients who had a plan in place tended to have generally better outcomes than individuals who let their emotions take over during financial decision-making. When I saw the impact I could have on clients' lives as a voice of reason during times of uncertainty, I knew I had found my career calling to help people navigate the complexity of financial decision making, especially in retirement.

Is there a unique approach that sets you apart?

At the foundation of each of my client relationships is a comprehensive financial plan, which includes three key components:

  1. Balance sheet

I always begin by putting together a balance sheet of their current assets and liabilities to provide a full financial picture.

  2. Cash flow projections

After establishing their balance sheet, I cover how much income the client needs to live their ideal retirement life. We discuss savings rates and income projections from sources like social security, rental properties, pensions, and beyond. Using this information, I’m able to solve for how much income a family will need from a portfolio during retirement. This ultimately leads to the next component, which involves what their portfolio should look like to achieve that income goal.

  3. Investment recommendations

Similar to how doctors conduct a preliminary exam before making a diagnosis or prescribing medicine, I don’t talk to clients about investments until we have a comprehensive plan built. As a fiduciary, planning has helped build a strong foundation with my clients to properly discuss investments.

What types of clients do you work with?

I primarily work with individuals and families who are approaching retirement or are already retired. For pre-retirees, I’m able to provide clarity for their financial picture and progress towards goals. For retirees, I’m able to provide peace of mind to clients who understand their money is being actively  managed so they can live comfortably in retirement, without the fear of running out of money before they run out of time.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT WORKING WITH CLIENTS

My favorite part about working with clients is the relationships and connections that I’ve built with them. I love the peace of mind my clients have knowing they have a plan in place, so they can focus on living their life, knowing that their money is being appropriately cared for.

What areas of expertise do you have?

My expertise spans many areas across retirement planning, including income planning, tax optimization, and legacy planning. I also hold expertise in pension options analysis, asset transfer strategies, social security timing, and Roth conversion strategies.

What types of strategies do you usually help clients with?

I enjoy the autonomy and authority Savvy provides to do what is in the best interest of my clients at all times.
